About The Light Crust Doughboys

Founded in 1931 in Fort Worth, Texas, The Light Crust Doughboys are among the longest-running performing bands in American music history.   What began as a radio ensemble promoting Light Crust Flour quickly evolved into a musical phenomenon that helped shape the sound of Western Swing—a uniquely American genre blending country, jazz, blues, folk, and popular music into an energetic style that continues to inspire musicians around the world.

The band’s remarkable legacy includes Grammy Award recognition, eight Grammy Award nominations, induction into multiple Halls of Fame, and designation as Official Music Ambassadors of Texas.   These honors reflect not only the band’s extraordinary musicianship but also its enduring contribution to American cultural history.

Today, under the leadership of Grammy Award-winning producer, musician, and historian Art Greenhaw, The Light Crust Doughboys continue to perform throughout Texas and across the United States.   The current ensemble features an accomplished group of musicians dedicated to honoring the band’s rich legacy while bringing renewed energy and artistry to every performance.

Whether appearing at performing arts centers, music festivals, museums, universities, community celebrations, corporate events, or private engagements, The Light Crust Doughboys present more than a concert—they share a living chapter of American musical history.   Every performance celebrates the spirit of Texas, the enduring tradition of Western Swing, and nearly a century of music that continues to bring audiences together.

As the band approaches its centennial, The Light Crust Doughboys remain committed to preserving this extraordinary legacy while inspiring future generations to discover the timeless joy of America’s original dance music.
